Rev. George E. Poulos, Jr.
The Rev. George E. Poulos, Jr. serves as Senior Pastor of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, having previously served as Senior Pastor and Interim Principal of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and School, Hollywood, FL, prior to the historic merger of the Gloria Dei and St. Mark’s ministries in July of 2011.
Ordained in 1984, Pastor Poulos has served Florida congregations in Miami, North Miami, Hollywood and now Davie. In addition to congregational ministry, Pastor Poulos serves as Chaplain to the City of Miami Department of Police, a voluntary ministry since 1984.
Pastor Poulos earned the Bachelor of Science degree, Magna Cum Laude, with majors in Education Administration and Biblical Studies from Trinity International University, Miami (1979), where he was also elected Student Government Vice-President and President. He is also an alumnus of the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL. In addition, he holds the Master of Divinity, and Masters Specialty in Educational Leadership from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Deerfield, Illinois) and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. While at Trinity, Pastor Poulos was elected Student Government President.
With interests in Bioethics and Human Dignity, Pastor Poulos was one of the founding Board Members of the Center of Bioethics and Human Dignity in Bannockburn, Illinois. He has also served on the Advisory Board of the International Academy of Apologetics, Evangelism and Human Rights, Strasbourg, France under the Direction of the Rev. Dr. John Warwick Montgomery.
Pastor Poulos is married to Virginia (nee Gravlin), who is better known as “Ginger.” Their marriage has been blessed by our Lord with four fabulous children: Nina Virginia (April 2001), James Evangelos (February 2003), Thomas George (November 2004), and Daniel Mark (November 2006).
